Brahmos is a Supersonic Cruise Missile which is a joint project between India and Russia and the name is Brahmos is kept after the two rivers namely, the Brahmaputra of India and the Moskya of Russia. Brahmos is a project under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and NPO Mashinostroeyenia (NPOM) of Russia since the year 1998 and is developed by BrahMos Aerospace. BrahMos Aerospace was formed with a vision to be known in the field of leading Cruise Missile Systems by providing the nation with the most note-worthy measures of quality with parallel endeavors for cutting edge frameworks in missile systems.
Brahmos Missile is two stage missile which has a strong fuel booster motor. This is its first stage which conveys it to supersonic rate and after that gets isolated. The second stage which has a fluid ramjet brings the Missile in cruise phase at a 3 Mach speed. Some exceptional components like Guidance system and stealth technology furnished the missile with cutting edge software. Because of its velocity and precision, the BrahMos is viewed as an exception missile amongst the most imposing cruise missiles.
With a flight range of 290 km, BrahMos can achieve its maximum speed of Mach 3. It has a cruising altitude of 15 km and the terminal altitude is minimum 10 Meters. The BrahMos is furnished with stealth innovation intended to make it less obvious to radar and other identification techniques. The missile additionally possesses a steep state of precision, which has been accounted for as close as 1 to 5 m CEP. The BrahMos missile works on the "fire and forget" standard, implying that once it has been propelled, it will strike its objective without needing any help. It has an inertial navigation system (INS) that are used against ship targets, and an INS/Global Positioning System for use against land targets. The Terminal direction is accomplished through an active/passive radar.
FEATURES:
- It possesses high supersonic velocity throughout its time of flight.
- It works on different platforms making it a universal missile.
- Its operation is based on the "Fire and forget" principle.
- It has long flight range with different trajectories.
- It can be configured for land, sea and aerial stages.
BRAHMOS Missile, the most deadly and strong weapon framework for the accurate strike is accessible with Indian Army. For the very first time, Brahmos was test fired on 12 June 2001 from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur in a vertical launch configuration. In between the year 2001 and 2007, BrahMos had been test fired for about 14 times. About 8 tests were fired for ship targets and later on were test fired for land based targets. On 7 October 2012, the Indian Navy test fired BrahMos from the guided rocket frigate inertial navigation system which fitted with cutting edge satellite System. On 20 March 2013, Brahmos' submarine variant was test fired for the first time from the submerged barge close to Vishakhapatnam. On 8 July 2014, BrahMos was test fired for the first time in supersonic dive mode against the land target.
